Online or In-Person, Individual or Group, There is a Program for You

Cost?   Pay-What-You-Can!

Tyler's after-school programs offer great ways for students to supplement music in schools. They provide an opportunity for students to learn at their own pace and in directions that are most meaningful to them. Additionally, for students who are interested in pursuing music in college or a career in music, mentorship through lessons increases their ability to navigate the world of music and defend their educational goals and artistic vision. Tyler is an advocate for student self-authorship which not only increases intrinsic motivation, it ensures students see themselves in the music they are making.

Online & In-Person Lessons

Lessons are available on saxophone, flute, clarinet, or jazz improvisation (any instrument) and can be taken in-person or online through Skype/FaceTime. While lessons are typically weekly and either 30 or 60 minutes in length, frequency and duration are dependent on the needs and interests of each individual student.

Jazz & Improvisation Program

Come play in a jazz ensemble/combo, chamber
group, or add horn lines to your original songs! This weekly program focuses on collaboration, learning music by ear, improvisation, and group music making for youth in grades 7-12.

Clinics & Residencies

Tyler regularly collaborates with music educators to identify ways in which he can support and amplify their programs. Past sessions have included:

  • Sectionals: Princeton High School hosted a year of sectionals in preparation for their performance at MMEA.

  • Clinics: Tyler has presented clinics across the United States. Topics have included: Saxophone Fundamentals, Jazz improvisation, Career Development, among others.

  • Group Lessons: Deer River High School & Park Rapids High School enrolled student pairs in bi-weekly online lessons that occurred during regular band class.

“We had a great time having him here and he was a huge hit with the students and audience! Lots of buzz about the day and the night!”

“Tyler, thank you for spending time with my students and giving them so many encouraging things to keep doing, work on and think about. Having you here made them more confident and inspired them to keep listening and trying new things outside of their comfort zone!”

KMS High School Principle, and Band Director Pam Diem

"Tyler Cessor is an exceptionally supportive and knowledgeable teacher.  I wouldn’t be the player I am today without his guidance in fundamental practice techniques. Most of all, his confidence in me made me a more confident player."

Taylor Eichinger - Graduate of NDSU

"I was very concerned that private lessons would not be possible for my son... but Tyler has made it possible for my son to make great strides in his musical abilities... My son’s confidence and his ability to advocate for himself have grown tremendously since he started working with Tyler. Tyler truly is willing to work with the students AND their disabilities."

Margie Fairbairn - Parent of a differently-able learner

FAQ

What Does Pay-What-You-Can Mean?

If we believe the arts provide unique and empowering life experiences then income should not be a barrier to participation. While we ask you not to consider this lightly, and there are general goal amounts ($25/half-hr or $50/hr lesson, and $30/wk jazz program), every student is welcome regardless of their ability to pay. Additionally, if you are in a position to pay above the average, please consider doing so. Your contribution will help continue this programming for many more students.

When are lesson/rehearsals?

Lessons are scheduled individually and typically occur once a week. In your message feel free to include 2-3 available times for Tyler to consider. Rehearsals for current jazz groups meet either Monday or Tuesday nights with a large group improvisation class on Thursdays at 7PM.

Where are Lessons/Rehearsals

Tyler's studio, Intergroup Space, is located in the Majestic Building in Downtown Cheyenne, WY (next door to Paramount Cafe).  1603 Capitol Avenue Suite 413

What do I need for Online Lessons or School Clinics?

At a minimum you need a computer with a webcam or Apple device with FaceTime and a reliable internet connection (speed 10MB+). For best quality, please consider purchasing an external webcam and microphone. Tyler recommends the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 and a Blue Snowball iCE Condenser Microphone.
